Advanced Optical Monitoring for Enhanced Bioprocess Control

The main objective of this project is to enhance and complement existing bioreactor control systems, increasing productivity and process reliability through the integration of an advanced optical probe. This technology enables real-time, non-invasive monitoring of cell growth and the detection of different organic compounds with high precision.

The system is designed to anticipate the physiological state of the microorganisms, allowing early detection of stress conditions or cell damage—such as that caused by shear forces—before these effects negatively impact the bioprocess. This predictive capability represents a significant improvement in cell culture monitoring, supporting data-driven decision-making and improving overall process robustness.

The project aligns with the company’s strategy for the digital transformation of biotechnological processes, which supports the adoption of emerging technologies to enhance competitiveness, operational efficiency, and sustainability in SMEs.

The project was developed in collaboration with Advanced Optical Technologies (AOTECH) and was supported by the Ministry of Industry and the EU Next Generation Funds.
